Founding date: 1984
Approximate number of members: 225 Old Ironsides, Unit 17, 7,000-plus
WAVES National
Purpose: To provide an opportunity for locating, communicating
and associating with former WAVES of Massachusetts, to provide assistance
in establishing local units and a medium of exchange between WAVES National
and its local units and to promote contact with other WAVE organizations.
Also to provide service to hospitalized women veterans, to promote patriotism
and to encourage communications with local communities in matters pertaining
to and for women veterans.
Activities: Luncheon meetings, visiting and helping hospitalized
women veterans
Membership requirements: Regular membership shall be limited
to women who have served in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Naval Reserve or other
military sea service and who can show proof of honorable service (copy
of discharge, separation papers or current contract). Send application
and check to treasurer.
Fees and dues: WAVES National $10, $7 Old Ironsides Unit
Frequency and location of meetings: Luncheon meetings four times
a year on Saturdays at various locations
