March
2006 - Elaine Major will exhibit this month
About the Artist
Elaine Major was born and raised in La Farge, Wisconsin – a small
town surrounded by a farming community. She has lived in South Carolina,
Utah, Indiana, and now Massachusetts but spent most of her adult life
in Alaska. She attended universities in Wisconsin and Utah and graduated
from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant
Science. After the opportunity to stay home and raise her two sons, she
went back to obtain a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science
from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She worked as a Research Associate
for 12 years studying water quality and traveled extensively throughout
Alaska, appreciating the spectacular scenery while working in very remote
locations. Elaine and her husband moved to Massachusetts in 2002. Elaine
is currently working for a public water utility as an Environmental Compliance
Manager. Elaine volunteers as a board member of the Chelmsford Art Society.
About the Art
Elaine has always had a love for art and nature and spends as much time
as possible outdoors. This is likely why her watercolor paintings are
almost all based on nature scenes. Much of her work is still influenced
by the spectacular memories of the landscapes of Alaska and Wisconsin.
Elaine dabbled with watercolors and acrylics while in high school and
college.
She took her first art class just a few years ago from a well-known Alaskan
artist with a girlfriend and hasn’t stopped painting since! Her
style could be described as colorful, abstract, impressionistic, and contemporary.
Elaine resides in Chelmsford and can be contacted by phone at 978-455-5020
or email at elaine.major@comcast.net
