Branches Steel band is an authentic Caribbean Steel Drum Band composed of Caribbean musicians who perform the traditional Calypso music of Trinidad, Barbados, Grenada, Antiqua and Montserrat. Its very name suggests its artistic mission, which is to combine the music of these islands into an exhilarating blend of styles. Branches Steel Band appeared at the MacKay Library 3 years ago, and we've been getting requests to have them back ever since. We are happy they were available to return this summer.

The drums or 'pans' range from tenor, double tenor, alto, quadraphonics, guitar and bass to the traditional drum set and congas. The quality of sound achieved is extraordinary -boldly percussive yet rich and subtle.

Branches' repertoire includes traditional Calypso island music, show tunes, classics and popular contemporary music, all played in rollicking Calypso style. Branches aims to convey the spirit and joy inherent in the Caribbean culture while simultaneously presenting the steel drum as an authentic and sophisticated instrument capable of a wide spectrum of repertoire.

Branches Steel Band has played at many high visibility events such as Sail Boston, DeCordova Museum Arts Festival, Children's Hospital, Boston Arts Festival, Cambridge River Festival and First Nights in Boston and in many other New England cities.
