Elizabeth Sperry on flute
Thirteen year old Elizabeth Sperry is an 8th grade student at McCarthy
Middle School in Chelmsford, MA. During her four years of flute studies
with Amanda Hughes, (also of Chelmsford) Elizabeth has developed award
winning skills with her exceptional abilities. She has participated in
three GBFA Solo and Ensemble Days earning three gold ratings. In October
2007, Elizabeth was selected as a finalist in the New England String Ensemble’s
flute concerto competition’s 14 and under category. In 2009, while
playing principal flute/piccolo with the NYO, Elizabeth won the Nashoba
Youth Honors Orchestra’s concerto competition, playing Mozart’s
Flute Concerto in D Major. Elizabeth is currently playing with the Boston
Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Junior Repertory Orchestra in a rotational
principal position. She has participated in chamber groups with both the
Nashoba Youth Orchestra and BYSO programs. As well, she has been involved
in; the Northeast Junior District Festival, earning principle parts in
the band and orchestra; the John Philips Sousa Honors Band; has had radio/TV
invitations in Minnesota and New Jersey; and has been a part of community
service events for Chelmsford and surrounding areas. Elizabeth has participated
in master classes with Doug Worthen, Dan Riley, and Philippa Davies. In
addition to the flute, Elizabeth has studied piano for 7 years participating
in recitals and National Piano Guild auditions. Elizabeth’s unbridled
enthusiasm for music is matched only by her sparkling personality and
charm.
