Young Bands on the Rise
This
summer we are presenting a new twist to our World Wide Wednesdays concert
series. We are happy to present a new tour called “The Young Bands
on the Rise Tour!” This consists of a group of highly successful,
hard working youth bands and solo musicians from around New England who
are working together to take their talents to summer camps, bandstand
stages, and “concerts on the commons” across the region throughout
the summer. Each of the acts on this ‘tour’ is tracking for
success, having won regional or national band battles, been selected for
showcases and been recognized for their musicianship and professionalism
as performers. Many have recorded multiple CD’s and all have significant
stage experience. Particular care has been taken to select acts whose
lyrics and image portray a positive, healthy message and whose music appeals
to wide audience. Two of these bands on the tour, The Cranks
and Beyond the Obvious will be performing in Chelmsford.
The Cranks
(Dunstable/Westford)
Together since ’06, The Cranks is a young band - and if you were
expecting 4 guys and lots of guitars, The Cranks have something else to
offer. Their music is indie alt-rock with captivating melodies, a female
vocalist in the forefront, and songwriting and lyric themes you would
expect from veterans. The Cranks’ sound is reminiscent of 90’s
post punk rockers like the Pixies with the modern dynamics of Guster and
the power of Kings of Leon and Weezer. Their accomplishments include:
Winner of Westford Apple Blossom Festival Battle of the Bands 2012, Finalist
in Berklee College of Music Battle of the Bands 2012, Finalist in the
2012 Hard Rock Café Boston/Music On & Up Showcase, 2nd Place
winner of Harvard Fall Festival Battle of the Bands, Rockin Ribfest 2010,
2011, and First Night Wolfeboro. Their song “Good Guys” has
been added to Boston’s WXRV The River’s Homegrown show. The
Cranks were featured on the cover of Metronome Magazine in the spring
of 2012. They have two released CD’s: "Downside Up" and
"What?" (available via iTunes).

Beyond
the Obvious (Westford/Malden)
Beyond the Obvious is a duet (guitars, keyboards and vocals)
comprised of two 16 year olds. They have performed at numerous events
including restaurants, private parties, fairs, shows, and showcases. They
have been finalists in the 2010 and 2011 Music On & Up Showcase at
the Hard Rock Café in Boston. They won “Best 15 and Under
Band Performance” in 2010 and “Greatest Potential Performer”
award in 2011. Beyond the Obvious took 1st Place at the Bishop Fenwick
2011 Talent Show and has also opened a show for international recording
artists, “The Guggenheim Grotto.” Their shows consist of half
covers and half originals written by both band members. They complement
each other very well with their beautiful vocal harmonies and guitar and
keyboard accompaniment.
