Snacks in the Stacks Recap!

On Tuesday afternoon we had our very first Snacks in the Stacks Booktalk Club! Our small group had tons of fun snacking & discussing our current favorite reads. I wanted to share a quick recap of some of the books we discussed in case you want to pick them up yourself! 🙂

And if you’re interested, please  join us for next month’s meetup on May 29th at 4:00!

Gone by Michael Grant – “In a small town on the coast of California, everyone over the age of fourteen suddenly disappears, setting up a battle between the remaining town residents and the students from a local private school, as well as those who have “The Power” and are able to perform supernatural feats and those who do not.”

Theodore Boone, the Scandal by John Grisham – “Thirteen-year-old Theodore Boone knows every judge, police officer, and court clerk in Strattenburg. He has even helped bring a fugitive to justice. But even a future star lawyer like Theo has to deal with statewide standardized testing. When an anonymous tip leads the school board to investigate a suspicious increase in scores at another local middle school, Theo finds himself thrust in the middle of a cheating scandal. With insider knowledge and his future on the line, Theo must follow his keen instincts to do what’s right in the newest case for clever kid lawyer Theo Boone.” (The sequel Theodore Boone, the Abduction is also a gripping read!)

The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander – “In the land of Prydain, evil is never far away. Arawn, Lord of the Land of Death, has been building an army of dark warriors to take over Prydain, and the only way to stop him is to destroy the Black Cauldron he uses to create his dreaded soldiers. Taran the Assistant Pig-Keeper and his loyal companions must journey deep into Arawn’s domain to destroy the Black Cauldron. For each of them, the quest has a special meaning. For Taran, it is the glorious opportunity to use his first sword in battle. But war requires a sacrifice greater than he’d ever imagined.”

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin – “Minli, an adventurous girl from a poor village, buys a magical goldfish, and then joins a dragon who cannot fly on a quest to find the Old Man of the Moon in hopes of bringing life to Fruitless Mountain and freshness to Jade River.”(This reader was also inspired to pick up Lin’s When the Sea turned to Silver)

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend – “A cursed child destined to die on her eleventh birthday is rescued and whisked away to a secret realm called Nevermoor and given the chance to compete for a place in a prestigious organization called the Wundrous Society”

Cyrano (on Playaway) adapted by Geraldine McCaughrean – “When Roxanne can’t see past Cyrano’s ugly visage, Cyrano expresses his feelings within letters that he asks a soldier to deliver. But Roxanne falls for the soldier, believing the letters are his own.”
