YA Diary Novels
Our upcoming Make-It Club (Make a Journal!) has me thinking about some of my favorite YA Diary Novels. I love this storytelling format, and wanted to share a few of my favorites:
The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
This series is so cute, funny & feel-good. I love Mia and her quirks, crushes, and lack of royal refinement. Maybe you’ve seen the movies, but trust me – the books are so.much.better!
The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz
If you like historical fiction, you will love this one. Joan, at fourteen, runs away from home to take on a position as a hired girl in a wealthy Baltimore household.
Terrier by Tamora Pierce
I will read pretty much anything set in Tortall. Join Beka Cooper as she trains to become a member of the Guard protecting the people of the Lower City.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
While there is serious controversy surrounding this author, I still love the book. Junior’s voice and cartooning style are warm, funny, and relatable. Just don’t read it until you’re ready, as there is some rough language and adult content.
There are so many more amazing YA Diary Novels, but I just wanted to highlight a few here. Stop by the Teen Desk and let me know your favorites!
