Seed Library
Thanks to the Friends of the Chelmsford Library and other generous donors we have a free seed library at the branch. In 2026 we have a variety of vegetables and herbs including Red Brandywine tomato, purple tomatillo, dill, arugula, Cherry Belle radishes, heirloom beets, and more. We even have some wildflower seeds!
Spice Library
Have you ever needed a tablespoon of coriander or even just a teaspoon of something like ground sumac, but you don't want to buy a whole bottle? We have all sorts of seasonings, which you can measure out into little packets when you want to cook or bake something new! (Unlike most library items, you don't need to return the spices!)
History
The MacKay Branch is the former home of Anna C. MacKay, a librarian in Chelmsford from 1906-1924. Anna’s brother, Stewart MacKay gave the home to the Town of Chelmsford, in Anna’s honor, in 1947 to be used as a library serving the residents of North Chelmsford.
