Crochet Cakery: A Daily Practice available now

"Daily Practice" courses offer deep dives into a range of craft practices, each in a series of short classes that you can take on at your own pace. In Crochet Cakery, Twinkie Chan will teach you how to make delicious-looking crocheted desserts that you can give as gifts or keep as decorations. The first eight videos range from three to thirteen minutes each and show you the basics: round cakes, square cakes, and cake slices, each broken down into daily steps. From there, it's all about decoration: how to create the look of frosting, piping, drip icing, fruits and flowers to decorate your crocheted goodies! A new video is posted each day of the month.

Make a Natural Deodorant available now

With the wide range of dangerous chemicals in traditional deodorants, many of us are looking for natural alternatives. Arina Soler from BellaCreme will show you how to make a DIY deodorant at home where the ingredients are up to you! Learn two different versions - using shea butter or cocoa butter as a base - and make a gentle and safe deodorant that will keep you fresh and smelling great.

Mixtape: Paint and Draw Rocks and Shells available July 16

Learn drawing, painting, and monoprint techniques all based around beautiful beach debris. CreativeBug Mixtapes are collections of clips from a variety of courses all sharing a visual theme. The seven instructional videos total under an hour, but you can watch and rewatch as needed to strengthen your skills. If you want to expand from there, the full courses are linked below the playlist. Bring the seashore home in ink!

Sew Felt Play Food premieres July 23

Learn to make kid-friendly felted foods with Sanae Ishida. Create beautiful 3-dimensional food designs that add up to a fun afternoon tea set made up of interchangeable pieces that will tap your kids' creativity, including mugs, tea bags, cupcakes, cookies and fruits.

Draft and Sew a Knit Cardigan premieres July 30

It's hard to imagine sweater weather already, but you can get ready to make your own lightweight, relaxed cardigan at home. Choose comfortable stretchy fabrics and Sanae Ishida will lead you through the process, from designing a pattern to perfecting the hem and the neckline.

If none of this strikes your fancy, there are thousands of classes on hundreds of topics you can access anytime on CreativeBug. Arts, crafts, even real food! Log in with your library card to get started and let us know if we can help.
