As the world gets more colorful in May, meet it in the middle with your own glorious rainbow of creative brilliance with CreativeBug. From a whirlwind illustration session to a movement break you can do in your chair, this month's new programs are such a great cross section of the variety of classes available every day, any time on this excellent maker's resource.

Now available: Pitch-Ready Picturebook: A How-To Guide in 15 Days

Sanae Ishida is a crafter, artist, and the author of the Little Kunoichi the Ninja Girl and Little Sumo series. In this course, Sanae will lead you from the processes of character and story development, to illustration and design, to structure and the all-important pitch that will help you sell your story. Using her own works as examples, Sanae will help you bring your picture book idea to life for all to share.

Premiering May 7: Make a Peony with Air-Dry Clay

Join Cindy Willingham and learn to work with air-dry clay to make a beautifully textured realistic peony. You may already have the tools around the house! Cindy will take you all the way through the process with a painting technique akin to watercolor, and a seal to make your sculpture last.

Premiering May 14: Crochet a Strawberry Granny Square

A granny square is one of the classic crochet designs: a square of any size with a decorative center, and a patterned border that's made by working outward from the decorative element. Twinkie Chan is a big fan of fun designs, many celebrating food! She'll show you how to create a strawberry shape in rows, and complete your granny square with multiple stitching techniques.

Premiering May 21: Essential Color Mixing

They're called the primary colors for a reason. Artist David Tenorio will show you the enormous range of possibilities in watercolor using various mixes of red, blue, and yellow exclusively. You can make rainbows and beyond, from subtle variations in the three original colors to earth tones to greys.

Premiering May 28: Movement for Makers

Creative work is work, and it can take a toll on your body! Everyone, no matter how creative or committed to an art or craft, can benefit from a movement break. Knitter, author, and yogi Liza Laird will present a simple practice that you can do wherever you're sitting. Improve strength, mobility, and mental clarity while targeting the shoulders and hips - the crucial pivot points for all kinds of creative work. Make a healthy break a part of your practice.

There are hundreds more courses for all kinds of makers at every skill level CreativeBug, your online makers' hub. Get your Chelmsford Public Library card and click the links to get started!
