Social Media Influencers in Fiction Display

As of my writing this, Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke has over 500 holds! This title was recently featured at Book Brunch with Jill and Julie, and is one of my personal favorite reads (so far) this year. It tells the story of Natalie Mills, a tradwife influencer who wakes up to find herself transported back to 1805, forced to reckon with the realities of the pioneer life she promotes to her million of followers. With the popularity of books like this, we figured we'd give the people what they want and create a display that features social media influencers in fiction. Check out some of these titles on the main floor of the library, and see our Instagram or Facebook for more.

Mallory Marlowe a video game writer by day and a great pick for romance readers. In Love at First Sighting, "It's close encounters of the romantic kind between an influencer and a handsome government agent in the next out-of-this-world romantic comedy from Mallory Marlowe. El Martin seems to have the perfect, glossy life as a Los Angeles social media influencer. But what she wants more than anything is something real to make her heart race in a way it hasn't in years. She doesn't expect that feeling to come from capturing footage of an unidentified, flying...something, much less the charming Man in Black who keeps following her around. Agent Carter Brody is trying his best to keep the Private Intelligence Sector afloat by dragging their hopelessly out-of-date office into this century, but what he really wants to do is follow in his father's footsteps by identifying and hiding extraterrestrial sightings. He gets his chance after being assigned to her case, where he is stopped in his tracks by her ingenuity and confidence, but also by the unnerving coincidence of how her sighting looks eerily like what he saw right before a family tragedy. The deeper El and Carter fall into the mystery, the harder it is to ignore the chemistry between them as their own alien feelings start to feel dangerously terrestrial."

Julie Chan is Dead by Liann Zhang was incredibly popular when it first released. Lucky for our patrons, after a year, some of the hype has died down and you can likely find it on our shelves! "In this razor-sharp, diabolical debut thriller, a young woman steps into her deceased twin's influencer life, only to discover dark secrets hidden behind her social media façade. Julie Chan has nothing. Her twin sister has everything. Except a pulse. Julie Chan, a supermarket cashier with nothing to lose, finds herself thrust into the glamorous yet perilous world of her late twin sister, Chloe VanHuusen, a popular influencer. Separated at a young age, the identical twins were polar opposites and rarely spoke, except for one viral video that Chloe initiated (Finding My Long-Lost Twin And Buying Her A House #EMOTIONAL). When Julie discovers Chloe's lifeless body under mysterious circumstances, she seizes the chance to live the life she's always envied. Transforming into Chloe is easier than expected. Julie effortlessly adopts Chloe's luxurious influencer life, complete with designer clothes, a meticulous skincare routine, and millions of adoring followers. However, Julie soon realizes that Chloe's seemingly picture-perfect life was anything but. Haunted by Chloe's untimely death and struggling to fit into the privileged influencer circle, Julie faces mounting challenges during a weeklong island retreat with Chloe's exclusive group of influencer friends. As events spiral out of control, Julie uncovers the sinister forces that may have led to her sister's demise and realizes she might be the next target."

In People Person by Candice Carty-Williams, "Dimple Pennington knows of her half siblings, but she doesn't really KNOW them. Five people who don't have anything in common except for faint memories of being driven through Brixton in their dad's gold jeep, and some pretty complex abandonment issues. Dimple has bigger things to think about. She's thirty, and her life isn't really going anywhere. An aspiring lifestyle influencer with a terrible and wayward boyfriend, Dimple's life has shrunk to the size of a phone screen. And despite a small but loyal following, she's never felt more alone in her life. That is, until a dramatic event brings her half siblings Nikisha, Danny, Lizzie, and Prynce crashing back into her life. And when they're all forced to reconnect with Cyril Pennington, the absent father they never really knew, things get even more complicated."
