Now You Can Download Comic Books and Ebooks from Hoopla!

Chelmsford residents now have a new source for free ebooks, as well as a way to download digital comic books!

We’ve offer Hoopla for over a year, allowing patrons to download audiobooks and watch streaming movies and television episodes, all using Hoopla. Now through Hoopla, you can also download ebooks and comic books to your computer or mobile device.

Downloadable comic books is a new digital format for us, and it compliments our print graphic novel collections (for Children, Teens, and Adults). The collection so far is small but growing, and some of the most popular titles have been:

hoopla-comic-1peanuts hoopla-comic-2drwho hoopla-comic-3garfield

The library has offered ebooks for years, mainly through our Overdrive catalog. The new ebooks through Hoopla are different. Just like the Hoopla audiobooks and videos, these ebooks are always available – which means no waiting lists!

Ebooks are a new format for Hoopla, so they’re still building this collection too. A few of their featured ebook titles are:

hoopla-ebook-1debt hoopla-ebook-3beaton hoopla-ebook-4whitehouse

All of these new Hoopla ebook and comic books can be checked out for 21 days (and of course downloaded again after that if you need more time, since they are always available!). Most of them are also available for both streaming and downloading to you mobile device.

Give them a try at https://www.hoopladigital.com – if you don’t already have an account, set one up at https://www.hoopladigital.com/register or contact the Reference Desk at askus@mvlc.org or 978-256-5521 x211 for help.hoopla-ebook-comic

Love Fashion? Read ”Girl in Dior”

diorThis graphic novel chronicles the career of designer Christian Dior for the last ten years of his life. Brightly colored drawings accompany a biographical history of the famed designer. The dress designs are very Grace Kelley or Audrey Hepburn and pay a beautiful a tribute to a man ahead of his time. Even if you are not a graphic novel fan, this book is fun just to look through for the illustrations.

The Chelmsford Library is now on Instagram!

CPLinstagramTo celebrate National Library Week, April 12 – 18, the Library is launching an Instagram account. You can find us at https://instagram.com/chelmsfordlibraryma/

Instagram is great for sharing quick photos, so we wanted to show off “24 hours in the library,” with one photo every hour. (Since, unfortunately, we’re not open ’round the clock, those 24 hours will be spread over the entire week.) We’re going to be capturing slices of life in the library, our collections, our patrons – and maybe you!

Here’s a sample of some photos so far:

Kid Rock`s First Kiss Won`t Be His Last

kidrockI have to admit, I am a huge fan of Kid Rock.  There.  I said it.  I saw him as an opening act for Kiss and never looked back.  His latest CD, First Kiss differs a bit from his usual raunchy lyrics and hard rock sound and instead opts for more reflective lyrics and bluesy rock and roll.  The title track, “First Kiss,” kicks off the CD with lyrics reminiscent of “All Summer Long” from Rock and Roll Jesus. There was not a single song that I didn’t like on this CD.  That’s quite a feat as far as I’m concerned.   One of my favorite songs was “Drinking Beer with Dad,” reminding me of summers long ago when I did just that.

Reflect  back on your carefree, misspent youth with this CD.  Kid Rock is aging like a fine whiskey, smooth and satisfying.

Twisted Threads by Lea Wait

Image of itemA decade after she left Haven Harbor, Maine, Angie Curtis returns after receiving news that the remains of her mother have been found.  Raised by her grandmother, Charlotte, since the disappearance of her mother, Angie believed she was abandoned.  Now there is evidence not only that her mother was murdered, but that Angie knows the killer. When a member of Charlotte’s needlepointing business dies under mysterious circumstances, it starts to look like the two murders may be connected.

Twisted Threads is promising start for a new series.  If you enjoy crafting mysteries, try Maggie Sefton’s knitting series starting with Knit One, Kill Two or Laura Childs’ scrapbook series starting with Keepsake Crimes.

I love cozy mysteries.  They are perfect for a snowy day spent reading with a cup of tea and my lap cat.  Stay warm!
