The Board of Library Trustees consists of seven community members elected for three years, in staggered terms. The Trustees may also seek to appoint Associate Board non-voting members. The Board of Library Trustees meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.

Library Strategic Plan: FY26 - FY30

A Five-Year Strategic Path Forward: Building a Library That Reflects, Connects, and Empowers. From foundation to celebration, each year builds intentionally toward a library that reflects the diverse needs and voices of Chelmsford. Grounded in our core values, this roadmap guides how we will expand access, strengthen partnerships, and ensure every resident feels seen, valued, and empowered to engage.

Get On (the) Board

Library Trustee is an elected position. To learn more about filing to run for office in Chelmsford, visit the Town's elections webpage. The Trustees are governed by the Bylaws of the Library Trustees of Chelmsford.

What is the Advisory Board?

Every voice matters! The Board of Library Trustees may appoint up to 4 community members to add their voices to the non-voting Advisory Board. Traditionally, there is an annual process to review the status of Advisory Board seats and to seek applications for new members. The intention of the Advisory Board is to invite residents with diverse backgrounds and fresh perspectives to help us ensure that the library is serving everyone's needs. No experience needed, just a love for libraries and desire to make a positive impact! A call for applications is distributed when there are open seats to be filled.

Please see the Trustee By-Laws (section 9.0) for full details about the Advisory Board. Questions? Email Library Director Lesley Kimball: email hidden; JavaScript is required

What are Student Representatives?

Your Voice, Your Library: Become a Student Representative

Are you passionate about your community, leadership, and the library? You could make a real impact on the library's future! The Chelmsford Board of Library Trustees seeks applicants for the position of Student Representative annually. As a Student Representative, you’ll bring the voice of youth to important decisions, develop leadership skills, and give back to the library that serves you. Further information can be found in the position description linked here

A call for applications is generally posted in the spring with a deadline of late April or early May. Applicants should be current high school students (preferably juniors or sophomores) and should have an interest in the Chelmsford Public Library and a willingness to learn about library issues.
