Juneteenth!

A few years ago, I learned about a holiday I had never heard of before – Juneteenth! Here’s a little bit of info about it from colorsofus.com:

“19th of June is Juneteenth! Also known as Juneteenth Freedom Day, it commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas, and more generally the emancipation of African American slaves throughout the Confederate South. On June 19th 1865 the Union soldiers brought the news to Texas that the war had ended and the slaves were now free.”

If you’d like to learn more about the holiday, come into the library and check out our display, or see if we have one of the books on this list to take home with you!
