Get A Library Card
Residents of Chelmsford and Town of Chelmsford Employees can apply for a Chelmsford Library card now! You have many different options to get a library card:
• Online by completing the form below. Your new library card will be sent to the Chelmsford address you share with us.
• Over the phone by calling (978-256-5521 x1210). Your new library card will be sent to the Chelmsford address you share with us.
• In-person at our Borrower Services desk. Present proof of Chelmsford residency or employment (e.g. MA Driver’s license, mail) and use your card immediately. Don’t have proof of residency yet? You can still check out up to three items on your initial visit, and the card will be mailed to your address.
Eligibility
Chelmsford business and property owners are eligible to apply for a library card in-person at our Borrower Services desk; upon presentation of proof of ownership of a business or property within Chelmsford, we will issue you a library card.
Residents of towns whose libraries belong to the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) should apply for a card at your hometown library. Use it in Chelmsford and at all 36 MVLC libraries. We will issue a temporary card for those without a library card from their hometown who visit our library; you will have thirty days to get a full card from your hometown library.
Those without permanent housing may use the (free) “general delivery” service offered at the Chelmsford Post Office, as a permanent mailing address for purposes of getting a library card through Chelmsford. Alternatively, you may submit a form signed by Jen Melanson, the Town of Chelmsford’s Community Services Coordinator.
Other visitors should visit our Borrowing Guidelines page for more information on eligibility to borrow. Library Card holders can borrow items from all member libraries of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC).
If you already have a card but can’t remember your PIN, your card has expired, or have other questions about your account, please contact us by phone, email, or chat.
